George Herren's Obituary
George Jefferson Herren Sr. – a resident of Daphne, AL, born to the union of the late Ecker Herren and the late Evangelist Verline White, departed this life Thursday, June 11, 2015, while on hospice at home. He honorably served over 26 years in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He leaves to cherish his memory, a very devoted wife of 48 years, Ruth Herren; daughters Linda Fay Howard of Buffalo, New York; Mary Ann Oliver of Fairhope, AL; SFC Beverly McCall (USA-Ret) of Ozark, AL; and Lt Col Sonya (John) Collins (USAF-Ret) of San Antonio, TX. He was preceded in death by his children Chequita Fay Chaney-Grier and George Jefferson Herren II (USA-Veteran) both of Daphne, AL. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; preceded in death by great-grandchild & little buddy Lathan Jeremiah “Jelly Roll” Chaney. His memories are left to be cherished by brother Eddie (Iola) Herrion; two sisters Inez Shepherd and Mary (James) Gibbs, all of Daphne, AL, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. A special neighbor, Lovell McCreary. His remains will lie in state Saturday, 20 June, 2015, from 11 AM. until the funeral service hour of 12 PM. at Serenity Funeral Home, 8691 Old Pascagoula Road, Theodore, AL. Reverend Starling King III, presiding. Interment will follow at Serenity Gardens Cemetery, in the Garden of the Wall of Honor. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Theodore, AL.
