GAIL LAVENDER LEE's Obituary
LAKE BLACKSHEAR –
Gail Lavender Lee, 75, passed away peacefully late Friday, June 7, 2024, after an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home in Perry. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., and the funeral will begin at 4:00 p.m. Interment will be in Perry Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131, or COPD Foundation, 3300 Ponce De Leon Blvd, Miami, FL 33134.
Gail was born on October 19, 1948, in Peach County to the late Rufus Lavender and the late Eva Maude Lisenby Lavender. She graduated from Peach County High School in the Class of 1966. Always fashionable, donning the latest styles, she was nicknamed “Natty Gail,” which stuck with her for her entire life. In June of 1969, while headed home from work one day, she stopped atop the railroad tracks to speak to her best friend, and in doing so, was introduced to the man with whom she would spend the rest of her life. Bobby Lee was on leave from serving in Viet Nam. Once they met, Gail and Bobby spent a great deal of time together during what remained of his thirty-day leave. The couple wrote letters to each other continuously, and on December 28, 1969, Gail married the love of her life. She continued her education and became a Licensed Practical Nurse, which she enjoyed as her career for forty years. During that time, Gail worked for Dr. Stewart and Dr. Strickland in Perry, Drs. Wynn/English/Harvey in Warner Robins, and Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele. Additionally, she served as a private nurse for families when needed. She met many patients who became friends through the years. During her spare time, Gail enjoyed gardening and playing Bunco. Cooking and baking for her family and friends was a favorite pastime. When away from the kitchen, one would likely find Gail shopping, filling her closet and home with treasures from boutiques, malls, and thrift stores all over Middle Georgia. For many years, when a family member left the presence of Gail, she would sing, “You better kiss me, ‘cause you’re gonna miss me when I’m gone,” a line from the famous song by Brooks & Dunn. Gail cherished the many, many kisses, and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Marvin Lavender.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Gail are her loving and devoted husband of fifty-four years, Bobby Lee of Lake Blackshear; her daughters, Dana Lee Bembry (Baskin) of Warner Robins, and Janna Greathouse of Perry; her grandchildren, Devan Fritts (Brandon), Dalton Bembry (Jordyn), Shawn Bembry (Olivia), Darrien Wallace (Ridge), Olivia Greathouse, Callee Greathouse, and Ethan Greathouse; four great-grandchildren; her sister, Marianne Lashley (Cecil) of Cobb, GA; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and her faithful, furry friend, Maggie, her beloved poodle.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
