Joe was born in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Charles and Ethel Redmen Henson on October 6, 1937. After high school and college, Joe served in the United States Air Force. He spent thirty-two years working for Continental Can, where Joe was the Maintenance Supervisor. He was a member of First Baptist Church Perry. Joe had a passion for being outdoors in the yard where he would work in the greenhouse or tend to the many Koi ponds. Joe was quite handy with his hands, he stayed busy rebuilding cars, or remodeling homes. He was a wonderful cook and a talented artist. Joe loved sharing his love for the Lord at church and participating in Sunday School Socials. Joe looked forward to hosting his Sunday School Class four times a year at his home. He was a member of the Avon Buice Sunday School Class. Joe loved his family and would often tell them to do something nice for someone every day. When he would help others with different chores he’d always say “don’t pay, just pass it on”. Joe loved being a blessing to others. Along with his parents, Joe is preceded in death by; his first wife, Margaret Henson; his sons, Rick Babbitt and Charles Babbitt; two brothers, and a sister.
Left to cherish the memories they shared with Joe are; his loving and devoted wife of sixteen years, Sonja Maddox Henson of Perry; his children, Lisa Bascas (Frank) of Macon County, Nate Henson of Clarinda, Iowa, Sheila Dewberry (Mark) of Marietta; his daughter-in-law, Judy Babbitt; two grandchildren, Nick Babbitt and Trent L. Dewberry; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements for Joe Henson. Condolences for the family may be left in our online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com.
