Fred Powers' Obituary
Fred Eugene Powers, 70, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 25, 2018, after an extended illness. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2018, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home in Perry. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 27, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Shirley Hills Baptist Church in Warner Robins. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery immediately following the service. Fred was born in Welch, West Virginia, to the late Robert and Betty Arlington Powers. He attended Concord State College. A Vietnam Veteran, he proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force. Fred was a farmer most of his life, but he spent the last 23 years prior to retirement at A.M. Bickley Chemical and Seed Company as a Sales Representative. Through the years, he enjoyed college football, college basketball, golf, NASCAR, and Atlanta Braves Baseball. His family, though, was the pride and joy of his life. He taught his oldest grandson, Cody, how to play chess at a very young age, and they continued playing more competitively the more the years passed. Cody was involved with and very talented at Competitive Target Shooting, and Fred was so proud. Fred would take Cody to his shooting matches all over the state, supporting him and encouraging him every step of the way. As the younger grandsons began playing baseball, Fred would take them to practice and attend every game that he could. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Kelly Powers Bodrey; and his wife of 43 years, Kathleen “Kathy” Prickett Powers. Left to cherish the memories they made with Fred are his loving and devoted son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Donna Powers of Marshallville; his grandsons, Cody Bodrey, Ryan Powers, Matthew Powers, and Jeremy Powers; his sister, Patty Harper (Marvin) of Beckley, West Virginia; two nieces; and his faithful companion of over 2 years, Jackie Humphrey of Warner Robins, who stayed at his side until his very last breath.
