Florence Carson Vickers' Obituary
PERRY- Florence R. Vickers, 90, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. in Perry Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to FOPAS – Friends of Perry Animal Shelter, 204 Kellwood Drive, Perry, GA 31069. Mrs. Vickers, a long-time resident of Perry, was a Certified Nursing Assistant. She worked at Perry Hospital in the Nursery for over a decade where she loved and cared for many babies through the years. When the hospital closed the nursery, Mrs. Vickers began working at Summerhill Nursing Home part-time, from where she eventually retired. Later in life, she chose Summerhill Senior Care Community as her home. While there, many of the babies that she cared for as infants visited “Miss Florence” and made her smile. She was a member of the former Perry Church of God. Mrs. Vickers had a true “green thumb”, was always digging in the dirt, and enjoyed growing her plants and flowers. She was a nurturer by nature, whether it be people, plants, or pets. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Doyle Vickers, Sr.; and two sons, John K. Vickers and Joseph E. Vickers. Left to cherish the memories of Mrs. Vickers are her children, Andy Vickers (Linda) of Ft. Worth, Texas, Barbara Wells (Tom) of Channelview, Texas, and Kathy Norris (Gerald) of Perry; and her grandchildren, Erin Ann, Richard, Elizabeth, and A.J. The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to the staff at Summerhill for the love and care they always gave Mrs. Florence. Condolences may be left for the family in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
