A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 30, 2012, at Perry United Methodist Church with Reverend Roland Fall officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2012, at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests contributions to Dooly Campground, 21 Parsonage Road, Vienna, Georgia 31092 OR The Methodist Home for Children and Youth, P. O. Box 2525, Macon, Georgia 31203.
Mr. Wright was born in Sparta, Hancock County, to the late Charlie and Susie Cooper Wright. He lived in Butler and was a 1947 Graduate of Butler High School. He "grew up on the chain gang", as his daddy was the County Warden in Hancock County and Taylor County. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army in the 503rd Light Engineers Company in Germany from 1950 to 1953, operating heavy equipment. He returned home to work for Beckham Construction Company in Perry, and later Scott Construction Company in Thomasville, then Coffee Construction Company in Eastman. He worked with Milton Beckham Company in Perry and eventually worked with the Houston County Roads and Bridges Department in Perry for 17 years. A longtime member of Perry United Methodist Church, he was President of the Men's Bible Class for over 20 years. The men's class merged with the Susanna Wesley Bible Class to create the Howell Cobb Sunday School Class, of which he was a member. Mr. Wright was a huge supporter of Dooly Campground in Vienna and was a Trustee there since the early 1960's. He loved going there, especially for camp meeting in the summers, singing those old-time favorite hymns, and rejoicing in the Lord with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charlie Wright.
Left to cherish the wonderful memories of Mr. Elmo are his loyal and dedicated wife of over 58 years, Elaine Shellhouse Wright of Perry; his sons, Mo Wright, Jr. (Barbara) of Charlottesville, Virginia, Jess Wright (Sylvia) of Valdosta, Ben Wright of Atlanta, and Dan Wright of Frisco, Texas; his sisters, Helen Dennard of Rome and Mary Anthony of Butler; his twin brother, Elton Wright (Jean) of Social Circle; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and special friends, Guyton and Barbara Turner, and Henry Albritton.
Condolences or special memories may be left for the family in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com.
