Ellen Dye Portella's Obituary
Ellen Dye PortellaAge 75, a resident of Mobile, AL passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at a local hospital. Ellen retired from Gayfers Department Store after 34 years of employment. She was proud to have been one of the employees that was present when the Downtown Mobile store closed for the last time. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. James Howard (Hobby) Dye and Mrs. Alice Shepherd Dye Stidham, her Stepfather, Mr. Huey Hubert Stidham, her Mother-in-law, Mrs. Lillian Duke Portella and Brother-in-law, Mr. John F. Burnett. Ellen was a proud wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. She and her husband, Michael J. Portella married on June 5, 1971. They have two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth P. (Thomas) Upton and SR. Mary Portella. She has two grandsons, Mr. Logan T. Upton and Mr. Tyler D. Upton. Two Sisters-in-law, Mrs. Jo Marie P. Wilson and Mrs. Geri P. Burnett. She loved her 13 nieces and nephews and her 16 great nieces and nephews. Ellen was a faithful member of South Brookley United Methodist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of Kinights of Columbus #666. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Serenity Funeral Home from 5-7 PM. Funeral service will be held at South Brookley United Methodist Church on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at 10 AM. internment will be held at Serenity Cemetery.
