KATHLEEN –
On October 6, 2023, Eddie M. Coffee, 72, of Kathleen, GA, passed from this world into the loving presence of our Lord after a brief illness. Interment will be in Perry Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, as Eddie helped found an Alzheimer's support group for caregivers. Contributions may be mailed to Alzheimer’s Association, 3040 Riverside Drive, Macon, GA 31210.
Eddie was born in Savannah, GA, on December 20, 1950. He graduated from Perry High School in 1971. He became interested in carpentry work as a teenager and began working with John Houser, a local residential contractor, and had a hand in building many of the older homes in Perry. After working with Mr. Houser for several years, Eddie accepted a position with Medusa Cement Company where he spent nearly ten years. An entrepreneur at heart, Eddie owned and operated a trucking company, a concrete resurfacing company, and several rental properties before his retirement.
A man of many talents, he loved carpentry, auctions, his garden, and spending time with his family. He was especially fond of tending his garden, teaching his grandchildren how to care for it, and sharing the crops. He loved spending time with his family and teaching them new things. He also loved helping his children get "good deals" on purchases any chance that he got. If you knew Eddie, you knew that he loved to talk, and not “talk for the sake of making noise,” either. His was a real, genuine, and heartfelt conversation. The old saying, “he never met a stranger,” was likely coined due to Eddie, as he had a wonderful heart for anyone. Within everyone he met, he always looked for the good. Eddie was a member of Perry United Methodist Church and taught fifth grade Sunday School for many years.
Most of all, Eddie was a deeply devoted husband who loved his wife with his whole heart. Eddie and Kathy celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on October 3rd, 2023. Eddie loved to tell the story of how he and Kathy met. It was obvious that he carried that same twinkle in his eye for her from the moment they met until the last moment they shared in this world. Eddie took his covenant between God, himself, and his wife very seriously and attempted to fulfill his role as husband to the utmost of his abilities. Eddie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a kind and compassionate man who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Eddie was preceded in death by his mother, Martha P. Coffee; his father, Edwin T. Coffee; his sister, Darlene Coffee; and twin grandchildren, Henry M. Coffee and Kayla M. Coffee.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Eddie are his beloved wife of fifty-two years, Kathy Talton Coffee of Kathleen; his children, Amanda Law (Ray) of Elko, Shawn Coffee (America) of Perry, and Ben Coffee (Lori) of Kathleen; his seven grandchildren, Hunter Law (Samantha), Ashley Law Stewart (Ashten), Jimmy Coffee, Neftali Coffee, Javier Hernandez, Benjamin Coffee, and Lilly Anne Coffee; his three brothers, Tracy Coffee (Cindy), Tommy Coffee (Sybil), and Tony Coffee; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died.”
1 Thessalonians 4:13
