DOZIER BLACKSTOCK's Obituary
HENDERSON –
William Dozier Blackstock, Sr., (Dozier) peacefully joined his Savior on September 25th, 2023, at the age of 87 with family by his side and with beautiful old hymns playing in the background. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 28, 2023, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home in Perry. Graveside Services will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in Henderson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to JDRF, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 200 Vesey Street, 28th Floor, New York, NY 10281.
One of Dozier's favorite photos was of him plowing behind a mule as a young boy. The 1930’s and 1940’s were challenging, and the requirements of his family’s farm were demanding. During this time, his foundation in his faith was established as was his deep love of family. Dozier also learned the ultimate definition and value of hard work while there. With God’s help, life’s greatest forces like humility, tenacity, genuineness, and perseverance took root and propelled him through life.
Dozier’s commitment to his church, family, community, friends, and fellow associates never wavered. Dozier was always quick to quietly help others, never seeking accolades, the limelight or praise.
Dozier’s professional journey took him far. In addition to the family farm, he spent decades in the Georgia State Patrol. He was a natural leader and always embraced responsibility for major initiatives. Dozier’s superiors always knew that they could count on his loyalty, personal responsibility, and his complete ownership of important tasks. He also built leadership skills in others. Of his many accomplishments, one of the greatest was leading the Georgia State Patrol’s security team for President Carter in Plains, Georgia. He retired as a Captain with the Georgia State Patrol, and his retirement celebration was a humbling tribute with many federal, state, and county leaders sharing their admiration and thankfulness. Following his retirement, his love of farming continued.
Heaven has gained a special soul, and his family and friends lost one. Dozier’s love, wisdom, life lessons, and inspiration will live forward in them as he now lives with his Heavenly Father.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
