She spent her childhood in Montezuma and was a “star” on the high school basketball team. Doris moved to Henderson with her husband William (Billy) where they raised their family. She loved being a wife to her husband, a mother to her children, and Nana to her grandchildren. Music held a very special place in her heart. Doris was passionate about flowers and loved working in her garden. She proudly shared her love for the Lord with so many during her life and during the sixty-years she taught Sunday school. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Perry and was involved with the New Beginner’s Sunday School Class. Doris was known as the sweetest, most caring, talented, and loving person you would ever meet. She will be missed by her family, friends, and community. Doris was preceded in death by her parents and infant daughter, Eva Janet Thames. Left to cherish the memories they shared, are her husband, William; her children, Jeanie Thames of Perry, Jill McGuire (Greg) of Atlanta, Carolyn Wood (Allen) of Henderson, and Cynthia Ott (Stephen) of Alpharetta; her grandchildren, Nicole Smith (Jesse), Brian Wood (Courtney), Alex Wood (Monica), Jay Elliott, Logan McGuire (Kathleen), Holly Turner (Michael), Julie Ott Berg (Lee), Stephen Ott, Jr. (Kathy), Wesley Tucker and Lindsay Tucker; her great-grandchildren, Cameron Buice, Ansley Buice, Kendall Buice, and Elouise Berg.
