DORIS MILLER DEMPSEY's Obituary
PERRY –
Doris Miller Dempsey, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, just two days before her 86th birthday. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. also at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church. Interment will be in Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church Campground Cemetery immediately following the service.
Doris was born on January 13, 1937, to the late George Henry and Evelyn Libby Miller in Moultrie, Georgia. She married the love of her life, J. W. Dempsey, Jr., and together they raised three children. Doris was a long-time, active member of Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church. She studied and worked hard to earn a technical degree in Drafting and became a well-known architect in Augusta where she worked for over twenty-seven years with various construction companies drawing mostly residential homes and a few commercial buildings. In 1999, Doris and her husband moved to Perry to Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church Campground and was asked to be the architect on a good many of the new homes constructed there in the early 2000’s. She always persevered in work and continuously served the Lord all of her life. Doris was a talented artist and seamstress, and made many of the clothes that her children and grandchildren wore through the years. A loving and devoted wife, she was a nurturing and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a special friend to all those who knew and loved her.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, George Miller, and his wife, Barbara Miller; her brother, Dan Miller, and his wife, Pat Miller; and her sister-in-law, Donna Miller.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Doris are her loving and devoted husband of sixty-four years, Jay Dempsey of Perry; her children, Donna Davis (Wayne) of Columbia, SC, Diane Walker (Richard) of Martinez, GA, and John Dempsey (Rebecca) of Grovetown, GA; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her sister, Lily Miller of Perry; her brother, Mike Miller of Suffolk, VA; and several nieces and nephews.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
