DON DUNCAN's Obituary
KATHLEEN –
Donald Guy “Don” Duncan, 85, died on Thursday, February 10, 2022. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at 12 Noon in the Chapel at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. A Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Interment with full military honors will be in Andersonville National Cemetery immediately following the service. Pastor David Miller will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to the Navy Relief Fund or “After the Races,” a thoroughbred horse rehabilitation facility.
Don was born November 20, 1936, in Moffatt, Texas, where he spent his early years. At age 17, he joined the Navy and served twenty years, retiring as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. He married the girl of his dreams, Joyce Knepper, and the couple shared a life of complete togetherness. They square danced, raised and trained horses, and were active bird watchers. He was immensely proud of their two children, Karen and Mike.
Don worked as a safety officer and held other duties on Robins Air Force Base for twenty years, retiring for a second time in 2001. Don was a natural leader and served as President of Deep South Dressage Association, Georgia Ornithological Society, and the Macon Chapter of the National Audubon Society. He was a handyman deluxe and could build anything, from bird nesting boxes to horse stables. If something didn’t work, he could fix it at a later date. With his generous and giving nature, anyone was likely to receive one of his repaired treasures as a gift.
Don is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Joyce Duncan; his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Mike Hannon; his son, Mike Duncan; his grandson, Ryan Duncan; his brother-in-law, Don Knepper; his sister-in-law, Vennie Duncan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
