DIANE FESMIRE SCARBROUGH's Obituary
Diane Fesmire Scarbrough, a long-time resident of St. Simons Island, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the age of 87. Private Graveside Services will be held for the immediate family in Woodlawn Cemetery in Perry. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 1685, Atlanta, GA 3031.
Diane was born in Sheridan, Indiana, on April 6, 1938, and moved with her family to Perry, Georgia, when she was in eleventh grade. Diane graduated from Perry High School after which, she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia. Diane was a lifelong educator who had a passion for teaching and learning. She received her Master’s Degree and 6-year Certification from West Georgia College and Georgia Southern University, respectively. Diane taught at Osborne High School in Smyrna, Georgia, before moving to St. Simons Island, Georgia. Diane taught high school history and special ed classes at Mcintosh Academy, Glynn Academy, and Brunswick High School.
She was a member of St. Simons Presbyterian Church as well as the PEO, Philanthropic Educational Organization, a sisterhood of women who are purposeful and passionate about celebrating, supporting, and educating women. Diane was an accomplished, master seamstress and avid reader who loved classical music. She and the love of her life, Charlie, were married for 68 years. The couple volunteered at the St. Simons Library, helping at the book sale every year and also served for several years at Mana House in Brunswick. They especially loved to travel after retirement and had many adventures together in all parts of the world. Diane’s favorite time of year was Christmas.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Betty Fesmire; a brother, Dennis Fesmire; and an infant daughter, Alicia Scarbrough.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Diane are her husband, Charles Scarbrough; her children, Mike Scarbrough (Denise), Laura Meier (Denny), and Julie Henderson (Jim); five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her brother, Chris Fesmire (Linda); and several beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
