Curtis was born on December 25, 1942, in Mobile, Alabama, the son of the late Lonzy Marshall Martin and the late Ruby Bradley Martin Rooke. He was a retired real estate developer, general contractor, realtor, and real estate appraiser. Mr. Martin was a licensed commercial pilot, a two-term former President of the Charleston Trident Home Builders Association, a former Chairman of the National Bank of South Carolina Summerville Advisory Board, a former Chairman of the Cathedral Academy School Board, a Federal Court expert witness, and a business consultant. He was commissioned as an Honorary Lieutenant Colonel aide-de-camp in the Alabama State Militia and Commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel. Curtis’s hobbies included enjoyment of his family, work, flying, mountains, Arabian horses, Southern gospel music, traveling, and studying tax and estate law.
Throughout his life, Curtis worshiped the Lord at Christ's Sanctified Holy Church, Cathedral of Praise, and Seacoast Church. Of all of his accomplishments, he considered this his life theme: Shepherd and The Lost Sheep. (Luke 15:4-7) He said it's strange that Jesus would leave 99 sheep to search for the one - unless you were that one - THAT ONE WAS ME.
Curtis was predeceased in death by his brother, Franklin Lamar Martin.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Curtis are his loving and devoted wife, Emily Ware Martin of Mt. Pleasant, SC; three daughters, Tammy M. Barnes, Tracy M. Rogers (Scott) both of Raleigh, NC, and Wendy M. Collier (Chris) of Jacksonville, FL; a step-daughter, Cheri Mahaffey (Mike) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; a step-son, Marty Chandler (Michelle) of Hanahan, SC; nine grandchildren, Tiffany Brush (Corey), Tyler Barnes (Tiffany), Lucas Barnes, Ethan Rogers, Victoria Rogers, Thomas Rogers, Griffin Collier, Jessie Vintson (Harrison), and Casher Collier; two great-grandsons, Easton Brush and Joe Brush; one great-granddaughter, Ruby Brush; and three step-grandchildren, Chandler Mahaffey (Mackenzie), Trace Chandler and Taylor Grace Mahaffey.
