PERRY – Constance Catherine “Connie” Murphy Simmers, 93, passed into Heaven on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, after an extended illness. Services will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Cross Point Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., and the Funeral will follow at 4:00 p.m. A private Interment will be in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
Connie was born November 30, 1929, to the late Laura J. and Ralph H. Murphy in Buffalo, New York. She accepted Christ as her savior and was His follower. She moved to Cobb County, Georgia, in 1943, with her parents. Connie went to Marietta High School for two years and graduated from Fitzhugh Lee High School. Nursing was her career choice, and she trained at Grady Memorial Hospital and graduated from Nursing School in 1952. She served as LPN in Maryland, then completed her time at Grady, earned her RN, worked as the night supervisor, and later worked as Head Nurse in the Emergency Room. Connie also worked at Kennestone Hospital for a total of twenty years and was the Obstetrics Supervisor for sixteen of those years. Obstetrics was the service she enjoyed the most. Connie moved to North Carolina for ten years and, during that time, advanced to Assistant Administrator at Wesleyan Arms Nursing Complex. She and her husband retired to Leesburg, Florida, where she lived for twenty-four years. Connie has spent the past eleven years in Perry, Georgia.
Connie was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-six years, C. Edward Simmers, and her parents.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Connie are her children, Dr. Gary Simmers (Joana) of Dublin, GA, Sharon Chumley of Dallas, GA, Cathy Becker (Tom) of Staunton, VA, Susan Strickland (Jesse) of Perry, GA, and Keith Simmers of Dallas, GA; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many great friends.
