Mr. Collie Leon Duke's Obituary
Collie Leon Duke, age 79, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 26, 2014 after battling numerous illnesses. He was surrounded by his family and the prayers of many friends. He was born September 3, 1934, in Clark County Alabama and lived in Wilmer, AL much of his life. Mr. Duke retired from Sears as an electronics technician. He was a longtime member of Wilmer Baptist Church and loved spending time with his family. He was a faithful caregiver to his beloved wife of 54 years, Evelyn Downing Duke, who went to be with the Lord on December 10, 2008. Known to his family as "Pepaw," Mr. Duke is survived by his 5 children, son, Terry Duke (Karen), daughter, Peggy Davis, son, Richard Duke (Tracy), daughter, Cindy Stokes (Al), and son Doug Duke (Melissa), 14 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, numerous extended family and friends. The Duke family would like to offer special thanks for the wonderful care given to our father by Dr. John Galla, Dr. Bibb Lamar and staff, and Convenant Hospice nurses, Angela Sewell, Evelyn Caraballo, and Pam Cox. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 29, 2014 from 5 to 8 pm at Serenity Funeral Home. Also visitation will be on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 from 9 to 10 am followed by the 10 am funeral service being held at Wilmer First Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Wilmer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to Wilmer Baptist Church or Convenant Hospice in Mr. Duke's name.
