Life Legacy
PERRY-Christina Ann Kearse Slade, 89, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2016, after an extended illness. The family will visit with friends on Thursday, January 21, 2016, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the home of Christy and Jeff George. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, January 22, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at South View Cemetery in Thomaston, Georgia. Flowers will be gratefully accepted, or friends may choose to make a donation to their favorite charity in memory of Mrs. Slade.Ann was born in Albany, Georgia, to the late Hugh and Bessie Calhoun Kearse. The Valedictorian of her class, she graduated from Lee County High School in 1943. She was also a graduate of Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now known as Auburn University) in Auburn, Alabama, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. In 1946, Ann moved to Thomaston, Georgia, and taught kindergarten. She met and married the love of her life, Thomas Jefferson Slade, III, and they lived in Thomaston for the next 50 years. During those years, Mrs. Slade was a member of First United Methodist Church of Thomaston, Upson Art League, Palette Pals Art Group, Thomaston-Upson Arts Council, Upson County Hospital Auxilliary, and Green Thumb Garden Club. She also worked in the clothing business for many years. In 1997, Jeff and Ann moved to Kathleen, Georgia, to be near their daughter. Ann was a member of Book Browsers, the Delphian Club, Houston Arts Alliance, and Perry Arts League. A member of Perry United Methodist Church, she was also a member of Howell Cobb Sunday School Class. Throughout her life, she enjoyed cooking and art and creating the perfect home environment in which to raise her family and to entertain her friends. Her biggest passion in life, though, was her family, who lovingly referred to her as "Ma Ma". Ann was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Jeff Slade.Left to cherish the memories of Ann are her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Christy and Jeff George of Perry; her granddaughters, Ashley McConnell (Brad) of Perry, and Kearse George of Denver, Colorado; her great-grandchildren, Slade, Grey, and Elizabeth Ann McConnell; and a niece, Susanne Mock (Billy) of Savannah.Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com.
