CHERYL ELAINE SKEEN's Obituary
PERRY, GEORGIA –
Cheryl Elaine Skeen, 60, of Perry, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family, on Thursday, July 17, 2025. A visitation to celebrate her life will be held at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home in Perry, Georgia, on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. A private reception for family will occur in the morning on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at a location and time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, if you would like to donate to help honor Cheryl, please contact the family.
Cheryl was born in Manhattan, New York, on August 25, 1964, to the late Ronald Smith and the late Barbara Smith. She married her high school sweetheart, Gary Skeen, after they met at Powell Valley High School in Virginia. She graduated from Berea College in Kentucky, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. After making homes on the east coast and then the west coast, the couple put down roots in Georgia. Her community will feel the loss of Cheryl in many ways, from her presence at local running events, to supporting Perry High School athletics, to her 30-year career as an accountant.
Cheryl was the heart and soul of the bereaved Skeen family. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, “Mema,” daughter, and sister. Throughout her lifetime, she enjoyed many outdoor activities with her family. If you couldn’t find her outside, then she was either cooking one of her grandmother’s recipes or spending time with her grandchildren. She never missed a birthday party, sports event, or performance, and she found joy and purpose in her role as “Mema.” She loved to run with Gary and tune in to her favorite show, Dancing with the Stars. One of her biggest accomplishments was finishing the Disney World Marathon, which combined two of her favorite things: running and the magic of Disney. Known for always thinking of others before herself, she will be deeply missed.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Lee Smith; her sister, Jodi Clark; and her brother, Gregory Gilly.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Cheryl are her loving husband of 42 years, Gary Skeen of Perry; her three children, Amber Howell (Josh) of Gray, Ashley Skeen of Perry, and Geremy Skeen (Christina) of Boise, Idaho; her grandchildren, Kaleb Branch, Taylor Howell, Sawyer Howell, Josie Howell, Kivi Skeen, and Garrett Skeen; and multiple nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the service.
