Life Legacy
PERRY-Charlotte Washington Evans, 76, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2016, at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida, after a brief battle with cancer. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Perry United Methodist Church. Charlotte was born in Albany to the late Leon and Evelyn Kennon Chapman, grew up there, and graduated from Albany High School. She received a Bachelor's Degree from Valdosta State University and a Master's Degree from Georgia Southwestern College, both in Elementary Education. She came to Perry in 1960 with her family. After a few years, they moved to Florida for business then returned to Perry in the late 1960's where she would live out her life. A long-time member of Perry United Methodist Church, Charlotte was a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She was a member of the IHS Sunday School Class. Charlotte taught school for over 35 years, sometimes even teaching children of former students, at The Westfield School, Perdue Elementary, and Bonaire Elementary. She was honored for her educational expertise with membership in Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Fraternity. Charlotte was a Charter Member and a Past President of the Beltista Club and was a member of the Wednesday Afternoon Book Club. She enjoyed watercolor painting through the years and was very humble about her work. She often entered her paintings in competition at Georgia National Fair and won several awards, including the year that she and her mother both entered artwork and both won. Charlotte loved to go fishing, and caught her most-prized, 30-pound African Pompano in Costa Rica last year. After her retirement, Charlotte enjoyed traveling to many places outside the country, including Paris where she was able to see all of the original artwork at the Louvre, while her favorite city was Positano, Italy. She loved her morning devotionals wherever she woke up, and was truly devoted to her family and her faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chip Washington.Left to cherish the memories of Charlotte are her loving husband of 9 years, Charles Evans of Perry; her children, David Washington (Diana) of Warner Robins, Philip Washington (Pam) of Perry, Richard Washington of Boulder, Colorado, Susan Evans of Estero, Florida, Jeff Evans of Atlanta, and Craig Evans (Rachel) of Wellington, Florida; her grandchildren, Dustin Washington (Siera), Dannon Washington, and Samuel Evans; her sister, Patricia Blackstock (Hoyt) of Boise, Idaho; several nieces and nephews; and a host of great friends whose friendships she treasured.Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com.
