Charlie was born on December 16, 1940, in Meigs, Georgia, to the late T.J. and Rosa Lee (Clark) Smith. After graduating from Thomasville High School in Thomasville, Georgia, Charlie met and married Joy Cory, and the couple enjoyed 60 wonderful years of marriage. Throughout his life, Charlie spent most of his career as a residential home builder in the Atlanta area. Charlie was a bold encourager to friends and family, and his correspondence will be cherished. He loved to cook, and large spaghetti suppers were a family favorite. A long-time member of Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church, he enjoyed weekly worship at his local church in Between, Georgia, as well as the annual Camp Meeting held at the Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church Campground just outside of Perry, Georgia. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Charlie will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Charlie was predeceased by his parents, and his siblings, Jack Smith, Margaret Collins, and Frances Nichols.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Joy Cory Smith; his children, Ty Smith (Mandy) of Grayson, and Tess Smith of Loganville; his grandchildren, Breslin Collier (Grant), Cory Hagan, Caroline Bennett (Kyle), Laurel Smith, Bella Wimburn (Jackson), Emmy Hagan, and Ava Smith; his brother, Cecil Smith (Shirley) of Atlanta; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at https://www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
