Charlie Cleveland Riggs' Obituary
CHARLESTON, SC-
Charles Cleveland Riggs, 88, passed away on April 5, 2014. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Christ's Sanctified Holy Church in Ft. Valley, Georgia. Interment will be in the Christ's Sanctified Holy Church Campground Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at 7:00 p.m., also at Christ's Sanctified Holy Church.
Mr. Riggs was born to the late Charles Henry Riggs and Lottie Collins Riggs on July 4, 1925 in Birmingham, AL. He married Sammie Brown on April 9, 1949 in Jackson, MS. He proudly served our country in the U. S. Army, was a World War II Veteran, and served in Korea and Japan before WW II ended. He moved his family to Atlanta, GA, in 1952, where he was a plasterer and an owner of Stylon of Decatur, a tile and carpet business. He moved to Charleston in 1985, where he owned Stylon of Charleston. He was a faithful member of Christ's Sanctified Holy Church (founded by his great-grandfather Joseph B. Lynch in 1892) until death. He served on Board No. 1 (the governing spiritual body of CSHC) from 1990 to 2007. His passions included his God, his church, and his family. He loved good food and enjoyed talking to people from all walks of life. He had a quick smile, a fun spirit, and an easy laugh that made everyone who met him feel at ease. He was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Riggs.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Sammie Riggs; two daughters, Diane Riggs of Charleston, SC, and Becky Collier and husband, Gary, of Leesburg, GA; three grandchildren, Brian, Jeffrey and Lauren; and four great-grandchildren.
