Charles Winton Sandlin's Obituary
On October 3, 2016, Charles Winton Sandlin,70, passed away at home after a long battle with congestive heart failure. He was surrounded by family.He was born and raised in Decatur, Alabama. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Charles D. Sandlin and Dorothy Mae Sandlin (Winton). He was an only child. He is survived by his wife Maxine Savell Sandlin of Wilmer and his 3 children. Charla Sandlin, Shelley Novay (Paul Ray), and Max Sandlin (Sandy) and 6 grandchildren, Lindsey & Luke Novay, Grace & Faith Roberts and Mason & Maddox Sandlin. He graduated from Athens College with a degree in Business. He moved to Mobile and met his bride of 44 years, Maxine Savell Sandlin. He was the manager of Lorches in Prichard, Al for over 26 years. Then transferred to Tupelo, MS before moving back and becoming the store manager of Ambassador Jewelry in Saraland, AL until 2001. He then worked for Walmart for 4 years before he retired early due to his heath.He was an active member of Moffett Road Assembly of God where he served as a volunteer at the food pantry and office. He also loved helping in the kitchen Wednesday night for the weekly dinner. Charles Sandlin never met a stranger he could not welcome into his open heart. He loved talking Auburn Football with anyone, especially his Alabama fan friends. He loved his volunteer work so much and filled his days helping others. He was nominated in 2015 as volunteer of the year.He was a simple, quiet man that never asked for anything, yet his laugh and love of God and his family will forever be remembered. He spent 12 years of his life as a caretaker for his mother-in-law and father-in-law. He was a selfless man that would do anything he could do to help his family, church, or friends. He enjoyed watching old Western movies, and spoiling his animals. Our family would like to thank everyone who has reached out over this past year while he was at home in hospice care. We would like to say a special thank you to his favorite aide/caregiver Rachel Helton of Cintronelle. She was blessing and delight to our father. He looked forward to each and every one of her visits with a smile.Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct 6th, at Moffet Rd Assembly of God from 10-12 service starting at 12 followed by graveside at Allentown Cemetery.
