Catesby O. Dotson's Obituary
PERRY-
Catesby O. Dotson, 89, passed away in the early hours of the morning on Friday, September 7, 2012, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's and cancer. A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. in Perry Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests donations to Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge Drive, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
Mr. Dotson was born in Paris, Kentucky, to the late Robert T. and Sadie Sons Dotson. He was raised on a dairy farm just outside of Lexington, Kentucky, where he worked alongside his father in every duty of his family's milk business. Mr. Dotson proudly served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps and afterwards, under the G.I. Bill, attended the University of Miami (Ohio). He then began working in Civil Service at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, where he remained for 16 years. He transferred to Robins Air Force Base as a Logistics Support Specialist in 1962, and later became a Branch Chief. Upon his retirement in 1978, Mr. Dotson was able to devote more time to the sports he loved, tennis and golf. He loved to play tennis, but also loved to instill the sport in younger generations. He was instrumental in the process to build the tennis courts at Rozar Park as well as developing the Perry Tennis Organization. For years, he held clinics through the Houston County Rec Department and even taught lessons at Perry High School. He also enjoyed playing golf at Perry Country Club. Mr. Dotson was a loving and generous man who adored his family. He was a Methodist. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Arch T. Dotson, of Ithica, New York.
Left to cherish the memories of "Gramps" are his loving wife of 70 years, Daisy Blackstone Dotson of Perry; his daughters, Lynnette Gordon and Bobbie Mizell, both of Perry; his grandchildren, Susan White (Robert), Robert Opatrny (Catherine), Brian Mizell (Lauri), and Amanda Delph; his brother, Bruce Dotson (Paula) of Potomac, Maryland; 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
