Carl Gilbert Darnell's Obituary
PERRY-
Carl Gilbert Darnell, 93, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2015. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 6, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Perry United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Perry Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. Visitation will also be on Monday at the church from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., the hour preceding the service. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Heart of Georgia Hospice, 1120 Morningside Drive, Perry, GA 31069.
Mr. Darnell was born in Fairmount, Georgia, to the late R. H. and Augusta Pettitt Darnell. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy. He was a Sales and Marketing Manager for Kraft Foods for 35 years. Mr. Darnell had lived in Perry since 1990, moving from Tampa, Florida. Having had a long-time interest in and appreciation for antiques, Mr. Darnell and his family became antique dealers specializing in estate jewelry and coins. He and his late wife, Jo Ann, and his late son, Larry, began working booths at antique shows and shopping events around the southeast with their business, "The Roving Collector". Mr. Darnell was well-known for the quality of the antiques that he sold as well as his superior knowledge of antiques and collectibles, in general. He was quick to tell "the story" behind each piece that he sold, which was always interesting and appreciated by the buyer. Mr. Darnell was a member of Perry United Methodist Church and the IHS Sunday School Class. He was a former member of the Lions Club and the Kiwanis Club. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Jo Ann Hill Darnell; his son, Larry Darnell; his sister, Sara Darnell Goen; and his brothers, Robert Darnell, and Herbert Darnell.
Left to cherish the memories of Mr. Darnell are his sister, Irene Lowe (Bill) of Fairmount; a brother-in-law, Michael Hall of Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.
Condolences may be left for the family in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
