BILLY WOODS's Obituary
CHESAPEAKE, VIRGINIA -
Billy Mathew Woods, age 87, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 5, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 10, 2022, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church in Perry, Georgia. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church with interment in the Campground Cemetery immediately following the service.
Billy was born on February 25, 1935, in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Claude Herbert and Emma Presley Woods. At the age of 16 he gave his heart and life to God in July of 1951, in Terry, Mississippi. From that point, he remained a dedicated member of Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church, serving as Sunday School teacher and conference member in the Norfolk church.
Billy worked in various phases of construction, beginning with the plastering trade which he learned under his father. He then became a partner in Woods Plastering Company and later in Woodsmen Builders. An avid lover of cars, he and his brothers shared many years together at Central Auto Sales. He never met a stranger and especially had a heart for young people, opening his home and making a difference in many lives.
Billy was preceded in death by his four brothers, Eugene Woods, Neal Woods, Paul Woods, and Burle Woods.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Billy are his loving wife of 67 years, Johnnie Mustin Woods; his three daughters, Gale Murphy (Doug), Marie Lawson (Chris), and Shelli Merritt (Mike); his grandchildren, Douglas Murphy, Krystle Skelton (Jason), Brandy Whitney (Mike), Christie Toole (Justin), Cassie Simons (Daniel), Megan Batts (Jonathan), Hannah Merritt, and Presley Merritt; and fourteen great-grandchildren, George, Elizabeth, Peyton, Ava, Ella, Abbie, Shane, Jaxson, Whitley, Mollie, Max, Cole, Cade, and Stratton. Also surviving are one sister, Martha Woods Mustin; three sisters-in-law, Janet Woods, Margaret Collier, and Loretta Mustin; and a host of extended family members and friends.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
