BILL BROOKS JR.'s Obituary
HENDERSON –
William Rice “Bill” Brooks, Jr., 75, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 22, 2024, at his home. Celebration of Life Services will be held at Henderson Baptist Church on Saturday, April 6, 2024, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the service following at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Henderson Baptist Church, 2813 US Hwy 41, Elko, GA 31025.
Bill was born in Tallahassee, Florida, to the late William and Dorothy Cook Brooks. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force for 10 years, which is likely the foundation of his love for airplanes and aviation. After his return from the military, Bill went on to work with Civil Service as an Air Traffic Controller for the Federal Aviation Administration and retired after 35 years of service. Through the years, the family lived in Tallahassee and Pensacola before retiring and living full-time in their motorhome, travelling the country and enjoying all the pleasures life has to offer right here in America. In 2007, Bill and his wife, Lynn, moved to Houston County to be closer to their family. He accepted a position with the City of Perry and then for ESG, reading meters. He was a member of Henderson Baptist Church, was a Deacon and Senior Adults’ Sunday School Teacher. Always smiling, he shared the word of God with as many people as possible, delighted in helping people, and never met a stranger. He loved playing golf. Bill was passionate about his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed sharing stories about being in the Air Force, working on airplanes like his grandson who is currently in the Navy doing the same thing, and talking about his love of music like his granddaughter, Kate, who plays the guitar. Bill was a loving, caring, and generous man and will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Howard Brooks.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Bill are his loving and devoted wife of fifty-three years, Lynn Pike Brooks of Henderson; his children, Billy Brooks (Andi) of Henderson and Travis Brooks of Baconton; four grandchildren, Faith Brooks, Belle Brooks, Kate Brooks, and Ian Brooks (Samantha); one great-grandchild, Brayden Brooks; and his sister, Lucy Edwards (Randy).
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
