BETTYE STIGALL GATES's Obituary
PERRY –
Bettye Wayne Stigall Gates, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at the age of 94. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Lizella United Methodist Church Cemetery in Lizella. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to The Methodist Home for Children and Youth, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon, Georgia, 31204.
Bettye was born May 21, 1926, in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Charles and Grace Rasner Stigall. Her life was centered around her husband, her children, and her grandchildren. She lived in the Byron and Macon, Georgia, areas for over 60 years. Bettye was highly intelligent, and together with her husband, Evans, they successfully built Byron Telephone Company. They traveled extensively and supported many charitable organizations including Byron Baptist Church and the Masonic initiatives. Bettye was an active member of Eastern Star.
After her husband’s death, Bettye resided at Magnolia Manor Senior Living in Macon for 27 years where she found great pleasure in organizing and initiating food distribution for residents and families in need. Bettye was a vibrant, firm, and generous woman who never met a stranger and was affectionately known as “GG.” She loved her entire family unconditionally and will be dearly missed.
Bettye is survived by her daughters; her grandchildren; her great-grandchildren; her great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Special tribute goes to her nieces, Angela Hancock Williams and Lynda Hancock Bishop, for their steadfast love and care during her life. In addition, tremendous appreciation goes to Shirley McCrarey for her lifelong caregiving and eternal friendship. The family also thanks Summerhill Senior Living/Nursing Home and Merlin Reddick for providing care during her last days.
Bettye was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Evans Gates; her brother, Paul R. Stigall; and her sisters, Doris Stigall Walker and Shirley Stigall Dudley.
