Betty Middleton Fredricks' Obituary
Betty Jo Flowers Middleton Fredricks went to be with the Lord on August 2, 2014 at approximately 5 am. She was surrounded by her daughter Julaine Nelson, grandson Curtis Knight, and husband Phillip Fredricks. She had been battling esophageal cancer for approximately one year.Apart from being a wonderful mother and grandmother, she had many accomplishments in her life. She began her career as a school teacher in Alabama and then moved to California where she again became a teacher and furthered her education, receiving her doctorate. While in California she sang in many church choir ensembles but her favorite was performing in a group called Celebration Singers where she recorded every Saturday in a studio in San Francisco, this was weekly television program. They traveled all over, spreading and ministering God's Word through song. Of course she taught and instructed the children's choir at church and at school. After numerous years in California she retired to Alabama. If you knew my mother, retirement was not what she was ready for so she returned to a teaching career here in Mobile. In doing so she bettered her education again at Mobile College, what is now the University of Mobile. Through those years she also taught the children's choir at W.C. Griggs school upon retirement. She still continued to find ways to occupy her time, whether it be through volunteering, joining Mardi Gras which resulted in her being the founder and the first inaugural president of the Order of Venus. She was also First Runner Up Ms. Senior Mobile. Needless to say my mother has touched many lives and has been a blessing to many, many people. We miss you, Mama, but we know you're already blessing others in heaven. You're gone but will never be forgotten.
