Bettie Ree Levins' Obituary
On December 7, 2016, the Angel of God whispered:“You have fought a good fight, you have kept the faith. The Battle is fought and the victory is won. Come now and take your rest.”Bettie Ree Hayes Levins was born on August 27, 1919 in Shiloh, Alabama in Marengo County to the late Ed and Eloise Hayes. She was the eleventh child of twelve born to her loving parents. She remained a resident of Shiloh, until she married and moved to her new home on the Gulf Coast of Alabama. Bettie has been a resident of Mobile, Alabama for almost 80 years. At one point in her life, she was employed with the Mobile County Public School System as a School Crossing Guard, after all of her children had become school age. Bettie was hired in sales and eventually retired from Sears in 1981. During her lifetime in Mobile, Bettie was involved in various programs involving the youth of the community. Bettie Ree confessed Christ at an early age with Rock Spring Presbyterian Church in Shiloh, Alabama. She became a very faithful member of Memorial Presbyterian Church (Formerly Ann St. Presbyterian) in Mobile where she worked diligently and held many positions, as a leader in the Church. As an Elder of the church, Bettie took her duties and responsibilities very seriously before becoming physically disabled, therefore, rendering her unable to perform as she had previously. Bettie was a sweet, kind and caring person who loved her family very deeply and was happiest when they were around her. She departed this life on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at the sweet age of 97 years. She was herald as the Church Mother as the oldest living female member of Memorial!Bettie Ree was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Dr. George W. Levins Sr. In addition, all eleven of her siblings left this earthly place before her, as well, as one son-in-law, Richard A. Williams, Sr.Bettie Ree Levins is survived by two sons, George (Elizabeth) Levins, Jr., Labarron (Janice) Levins, both of Mobile, Alabama. Three daughters, Lydia Williams, Mobile, Alabama, Katheryn (Alvia) Carter, Fort Worth, Texas; Joyce (Donald) Reynolds of Baldwin, New York. Twelve Grandchildren; 13 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchild. She will, also, be sadly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and family friends.The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the Staff of Mobile Nursing and Rehabilitation for their excellent service to our lovely mother, during her stay while under their care.
