Virginia Beach - A loving and caring life is to be celebrated. Such a life began for Bertha Virginia Hobbs Collins on February 8, 1928. She was born to the late William Daniel Hobbs and Blanche Katherine Riggs Hobbs in Birmingham, Alabama. Bertha's life ended Saturday afternoon, January 2, 2016 in Virginia Beach, VA.Underneath the soft-spoken, meek lady was a strong, courageous woman. Bertha had a caring disposition toward life and could always find the good in others. She was a wonderful listener. There was a sense of peace in her presence. Bertha never complained and was always sacrificing by putting the needs of others before her own.Bertha relished holding her babies. She took great delight in getting down on the floor and playing with her grands. She enjoyed playing board games with her family and Words with Friends/Wordfeud with her Facebook friends. Bertha was a lifetime member of Christ's Sanctified Holy Church. Besides her parents, Bertha was preceded in death by her dear husband of 59 years, Robert S. Collins and her brother, William Norman Hobbs. Left to cherish her memory are her three sons: Bobby (Robert S. Collins, Jr.) and wife Cindy of Raleigh, NC, Danny (Daniel H. Collins) and wife Alice of Virginia Beach, VA, and David (David J. Collins) of Virginia Beach, VA; six grandchildren: Carrie Ann Collins Zande and husband Pat, Jennifer Marie Collins Fentress and husband Craig, Robert S. Collins, III and wife Mary Holt, Joanna Elizabeth Collins Basham and husband Rhett, Abigail Katherine Collins, and Julia Margaret Collins; eight great-grandchildren: Amelia Hope Basham, Haley Marie Fentress, Paige Danielle Basham, Dominic Robert Zande, Ian Wesley Fentress, Dexter Glenn Basham, Hobbs Tindel Collins, and Holt Merritt Collins; many nieces and nephews who treasured Aunt Bertha's love and care; and a host of friends including her long time housekeeper, Elnora Jones. You are invited to pay your respects and visit with Bertha's family at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462, from 7 8 PM, on Tuesday, January 5, 2016.Final interment will be at Christ's Sanctified Holy Church Campground Memorial Gardens near Perry, Georgia preceded by a celebration of Bertha's life at the Campground Chapel at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 9, 2016. You are also invited to pay your respects and visit with Bertha's family at Christ's Sanctified Holy Church Campground, from 7 8 PM, on Friday, January 8, 2016.
