Arrangements under the direction of Serenity Funeral Home, Theodore, AL.251-653-4781Bernice Spires lost her short, valiant fight with cancer on Saturday, October 25, 2014. She was born in Mobile, Alabama in 1937 to Bernard Davis and Mabel Smith. Bernice’s sense of humor and love of life endeared her to her family and many friends. She loved to cook and prepared southern feasts for her family during the holidays. She enjoyed following her grandchildrens’ and great grandchildrens’ sporting events and other extracurricular activities.She is survived by her husband of sixty years, James Spires, Sr., her daughter Jeri Critser of Greenville, South Carolina, her sons James L. Spires and James Spires Jr., MD, both of Mobile and Richard Keith Spires of Dallas, Texas, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to a visitation at Serenity Funeral Home, 8691 Old Pascagoula Rd on Monday, October 27 from 5-7PM followed by funeral services on Tuesday at 10AM. Graveside services will be held immediately afterward at Mobile Memorial Gardens, located at Three Notch Road at Hillcrest. Contributions to the Lifegate program at Christ UMC, Mobile AL, the Animal Rescue Foundation on Range Line Road, Mobile or to the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers are encouraged.
