PERRY-Barbara Deets Stevenson, 74, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, after an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home in Perry. A Private Entombment will take place in the Dogwood Mausoleum in Perry Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Crossroads United Methodist Church, 1600 Main Street, Perry, GA 31069 or Friends of Perry Animal Shelter, 1028 Macon Road, Perry, GA 31069.Mrs. Stevenson was born in Charleston, South Carolina, and married the love of her life, Jim Stevenson. While Jim proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force, Barbara proudly stood by his side with complete love and support as a military wife. She was a member of the NCO Wives' Club for many years, supporting other women who made the commitment to honor their military husbands and families. A homemaker, she enjoyed taking care of her family, wherever they lived, which included Japan, England, Germany, and all over the United States. They were stationed at Robins Air Force Base twice during his career, and loved Middle Georgia so much, Barbara and Jim made their home in Perry after retirement. She was a long-time member of Crossroads United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Searchers Sunday School Class and a Greeter at the Morning Services. Barbara was also a former member of the Akikta Club, and enjoyed the friendships and community service opportunities the affiliation offered her. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Edward Deets, Sr., and Alice Hilson Deets Dandridge; her daughters, Lisa Pankau and Alicia Washabaugh; her grandson, Daniel Paul Armer, Jr., her dad, John C. Dandridge; and her brother, George E. Deets, Jr.Left to cherish the memories of Barbara are her husband of 57 years, James Stevenson; her granddaughter, Samantha Washabaugh of Dayton, Ohio; her grandson, James Roy Armer of Dayton, Ohio; 5 great-grandchildren; her brother, Larry Dandridge (Judy) of Charleston, South Carolina; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces, and great nephews; and her constant companion, her dog, Bubba.Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com.
