Barbara Jean McConnell's Obituary
Barbara Jean McConnell, age 79, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2015 in her home in St. Elmo, AL. She was born on June 5, 1936 to Ted and Irene Wiggins. She graduated from Theodore High School in 1953. She went to 20th Century Business School. In 1954 she married her high school sweetheart, Robert McConnell (Bobby). They lived in Rantoul, Illinois and Albany, Georgia, while Bobby served in the United States Air Force. They moved back to Mobile in 1958. She was a faithful servant of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a member of First Baptist Church of St. Elmo, where she served as a preschool teacher for over 45 years, was church pianist and a member of the church choir. Her hobbies included ceramics, painting, crafts of all types, researching the family genealogy, and traveling with family. Her greatest treasure was her family. She loved having family gatherings in her home and spending time with them.She was preceded in death by her parents, and two infant sons, Robert Michael McConnell and Steven Frederick McConnell. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert McConnell, her brother Fred and Dona Wiggins; her daughter, Debbie and Henry Jones and Jaelyn, her granddaughters, Amber and Chris Shirley, Kaileigh, Kennedy, and Camdyn; Amanda and Joe Sanders, Ethan, Addison, Zack, Arin, and Spencer; Kandy Tillman, D.J., Brianna, Brody, and Wyatt; Kasey Jones. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church in St. Elmo, AL on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 from 5 pm until 8 pm. A celebration of her life will be held at the church on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at 11 am. Graveside services will be at Oddfellow Cemetery immediately following the service. All flowers should be sent to First Baptist Church of St. Elmo. A special thanks to her nurse, Abby, and her aides, Christina, Jamie, and Donna, of Gentiva Hospice. Thank you for serving her over the last months.
