AUDREY JENNINGS's Obituary
PERRY –
Audrey Carter Jennings passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 18, 2025, after an extended illness. She was 89. Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in Woodlawn Cemetery with Rev. Tom Carruth officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to The Methodist Home for Children and Youth, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon, GA 31204, or The Westfield School, 2005 US Hwy 41 South, Perry, GA 31069.
Mrs. Jennings was born on August 31, 1936, in Canton, North Carolina, to the late Paul and Ruby Davis Carter. A graduate of Perry High School, she accepted a position and began working at Robins Air Force Base at age 17. During her Civil Service career, Audrey worked for the U. S. Navy Forms and Publications Office and the U. S. Department of Agriculture. Audrey always loved dressing nicely and had a passion for jewelry. She was such “the traditional southern lady,” from the way she carefully selected and pronounced her words to the way she was always dressed so nicely when leaving her home, even if just going to the grocery store. She was a sweet and wonderful Christian woman and was a long-time member of Perry Methodist Church.
After she retired from Robins Air Force Base, Audrey became a well-known sales clerk of The Tog Shop, a ladies boutique outlet store in Perry. She was instrumental in helping the owners set up and open the store, was a loyal employee throughout the duration of its business, and was still employed there on the day they closed their doors for the last time, fifteen years later. Her friendliness and fashion sense allowed her to be one of the most successful sales clerks there. With the store conveniently located just off I-75, she enjoyed meeting people from all of the country who had taken a break from their travels and dropped in The Tog Shop. As the years passed and her weeks became sprinkled with part-time work, Overton Jewelers/Bellamy Jewelers welcomed Audrey’s Southern hospitality and friendly sales style for several years before her health would no longer allow her to work outside the home.
Audrey was an avid reader who also enjoyed painting and listening to music. She had a soft heart for cats, and the last kitty she had was named Smokey. She loved him so much that she had acquired a fluffy stuffed cat that look similar to Smokey to look at when she was on her couch watching television. Audrey will be missed so much, but had a wonderful and long, full life.
Audrey was predeceased by her parents; her loving and devoted husband of forty-one years, Harold Jennings; her beloved son, Mike Jennings; and her brother, Edwin Paul Carter.
Survivors include her nephews, Chris Carter (Beth) of Atlanta, and Jeff Carter of Byron; two great-nieces, Cayla Carter and Chloe Carter; and her sisters-in-law, Gail Carter of Perry, and Kay Holland (Jerry) of Lilburn.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
