Anne S. Smith's Obituary
PERRY, GA – After an extended illness, Anne S. Smith, 93, of Perry, passed away peacefully at Heart of Georgia Hospice on August 3, 2017, with family by her side. Visitation will be held at Perry Presbyterian Church on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Perry Presbyterian Church with Interment to follow at Perry Memorial Gardens. Reverend Parker Agnew and Reverend Jim Shipley will officiate In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Perry Presbyterian Church Building Fund. Anne was born on June 21, 1924 in Abingdon, Virginia. She grew up near Cleveland, Virginia and was able to graduate from Cleveland High School when she turned fourteen in 1939. Once Anne graduated from high school, her family decided to move to Bristol, Tennessee. While in Bristol. Anne attended Virginia Intermont College, where she earned her degree in 1941. She fell in love after college and married the love of her life William Jackson "Jack" Smith Jr. The Smiths made their home in Bristol until April 1959 where they relocated Elmdale Farms, the family dairy farm, to Houston County. Mrs. Smith was very proud to become a member of the Perry Presbyterian Church in 1959 and has remained involved in many aspects of the church since. She has served as a choir member, a choir director, a pianist, a member of the Eunice Rammage Circle, a circle leader and teacher, and a Sunday School teacher. With farming being the family business, Anne became a member of the community Heard Club, as well as the GA Farm Bureau. Known as “Miss Anne”, she touched the lives of many families working at Wee Wisdom Kindergarten and the Perry Presbyterian Playschool for over 40 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William Jackson "Jack" Smith Jr., her daughter, Patricia Anne O’Neal, and her brother, Patrick Henry Smith Jr. Mrs. Smith is survived by two of her three children William Jackson Smith III (Toni) of Perry and Susan Smith Kluge (Robert) of Gainesville, Virginia; her sister, June S. Eaton of Burke, Virginia; five grandchildren, Kevin O’Neal (Amy) of Atlanta, Leanne Brannen (Jarrod) of Perry, Clay Smith (Kerry) of Perry, Jordan Ellis (Hayley), of Lexington, Kentucky, and Hannah Hubbard (Justin) of Lexington, Kentucky; and 13 great-grandchildren.
