Allen Matney Glaser, Jr., 73, passed away peacefully at a hospital in Savannah on Thursday, July 28, 2022, after an extended illness. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. and the Memorial Service with Reverend Jamie Powell will begin at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to American Diabetes Association of Georgia, P.O. Allen was born in Savannah on January 13, 1949. He grew up there and graduated from Savannah High School. He continued his education at Georgia Southern College where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. After college, Allen began working with Allstate Insurance as a Claims Adjuster. He married the love of his life, Valerie Rene’ Taylor, also from Savannah. In the mid-1990’s, Allen was transferred with Allstate to their office in Macon, and the family moved to Perry to be near Allen’s only sibling. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Perry, where he was a member of Greg White’s Sunday School Class and enjoyed serving as an usher whenever he could. Allen retired from Allstate Insurance after thirty years of service. He enjoyed travelling to Savannah often to visit family and friends. A “gadget guy” at heart, he was always looking for the latest and more technologically advanced electronics with which to begin tinkering. Allen savored the moments he was able to make repairs himself around home or church. He continuously had music playing wherever he was with whatever he was doing. A huge music buff, he had extensive collections of vinyl 45 records, 8-track tapes, cassette tapes, and CDs. Some of his favorite musicians included The Spinners, Steely Dan, and Eric Clapton among many others. Most of his friends and family members were gifted a “mixed tape” and will forever be reminded of their treasured friend whenever listening to the special compilations prepared especially for them by Allen through the years.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Allen Matney Glaser, Sr. and Evelyn Fontaine Southerland; and his sister, Nella Gay Chambless.
Left to cherish the memories of Allen are his loving and devoted wife of forty-five years, Rene’ Glaser of Perry; his son and daughter-in-law, Mat and Cathy Glaser of Middle Georgia; his daughter and son-in-law, Tami and Nat Greene of Thompson, Georgia; his grandchildren, Phoebe Glaser, Zander Glaser, Megan May, Taylor May, Connor May; and one nephew, Robbie Chambless.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
