ALICE FAY SHINN's Obituary
PERRY –
For Alice Fay Couch Shinn, her love of life didn’t come to an end with her death, it was just the beginning of Eternity with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Alice passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at the age of 80 after a courageous battle with cancer. At the exact moment that she left her earthly body, she was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives following her example. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Cross Point Baptist Church, 645 Perry Parkway in Perry, with Dr. Michael Stovall officiating. The family will visit with friends one hour before the service. Interment will be on Friday, April 14, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2617 Vinson Highway, in Milledgeville. The family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Cross Point Baptist Church, 645 Perry Parkway, Perry, GA 31069, for local mission outreach.
Alice loved her family and friends immensely and wanted everyone to know who Jesus is and what He had done for her and her family. She was a great prayer warrior; she took everything to God in prayer. Alice prayed specifically for everything.
The lives Alice touched were countless, from working with children in her home daycare to the children she taught as a kindergarten teacher’s assistant to working with college students at Randall University (Hillsdale FWB Bible College). Alice loved kids! She was always planting seeds of love and kindness in their lives. She was also very patriotic. She was an Air Force wife who stayed home while Troy went overseas. She made sure her children knew to stand when the flag passed, and that they knew the Pledge of Allegiance. Alice also made sure her grandchildren knew these things, too.
Alice was imaginative, creative, and naturally talented. She loved flowers, and she had beautiful roses growing along the back of her home in Oklahoma. She also loved fashion. She made sure that her children knew what to wear together (and what did not match), and she especially loved shoes! Alice enjoyed music and would listen to it for hours. She made sure that the kids who had an interest in music received lessons. She was in the marching band in high school and played the French horn and encouraged others to have similar experiences in their own lives. Alice also enjoyed sewing. In her later years, she loved making baby blankets for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite past time, though, was telling people about who Jesus was to her.
Alice married the love of her life, Troy Shinn, on August 22, 1960, and they had the best love story ever. Alice loved Troy with all her heart, and any time they went anywhere, they were always holding hands. They had three children, Kevin Shinn (Lisa), Tracy Shinn (Melodee), and Kelly Israel (Greg).
She was promoted to Grandma or “Braum Braum” in 1980 when grandchildren started arriving. They are Brenna Roy (Dan), Darci Klein (Dustin), Tara Davis (Justin), Rebecca Gorton (John), Tracy Shinn, Jr. (Hope), Andrew Israel, Jeremiah Israel (Destiny), and Rachel Israel. In 2003, Alice was promoted to Great-Grandma when God began honoring her with great-grandchildren, eventually expanding the family to eighteen great-grandchildren.
Alice was one of four children, and they are a close family. She has many cherished memories of praying for her siblings and parents to come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Her brothers, Jack Couch (Debbie) and David Couch (Nora) share her faith, and they each look forward to the day when they will see their parents and sisters again, who predeceased Alice. Their father was Albert Lee Couch, their mother was Nellie Fay Couch, and their sister was Brenda Fox.
Finally, these two verses speak to Alice’ love for Jesus. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Psalms 46:10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
