Alice was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on June 18, 1927, the last of five daughters to the late Brittian and Alice Tingle Parker. With her arrival into the family immediately came the nickname that would be with Alice for the rest of her life – “Baby.” She was Sanctified in 1939 in Wilmington, North Carolina, and moved to Norfolk, Virginia, that same year where she lived for over forty years. She met and married the love of her life, Callie Gray. A Master Seamstress, “Baby” made and sewed custom curtains and window treatments for many family, friends, and interior designers. In 1980, having lost her husband, she moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, to be near her family, and to the Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church Campground in 1986. From then on, “Baby” would live “back and forth” from Perry, Georgia, to Raleigh, spending quality time with her family whom she loved dearly. During the final four years of her life, she lived at her daughter’s home in Raleigh, where she was lovingly and gently cared for by Jeanette until “Baby” moved to the Campground in 2021 where she would live out her final days.
“Baby” was preceded in death by her parents; her loving and devoted husband of thirty-four years, Callie Gray; her sisters, Mildred Vaughn, Inez Hagan, Margaret Call, and Alma Gray; and a grandson, Cameron Williams.
Left to cherish the memories they made with “Baby” are her daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette and John Collins, of Raleigh, NC; her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Gere Gray, of Raleigh, NC; her grandchildren, Christy Williams (Jay) of Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church Campground, Laurie Gray of Raleigh, NC, and Matt Collins (Anna) of Raleigh, NC, Patrick Collins (Lauren) of Leesburg, GA, and Grant Collins, of Raleigh, NC; her great-grandchildren, Callie Williams, Becca Collins, Essie Collins, and Ezra Collins; her niece and nephews, Willie Hagan (Peggy), Bobby Call, Philip Authement (Pam), and Joan Curry; and many great-nieces, great-nephews, and brothers and sisters in the Lord.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
