AL ATKINSON's Obituary
KATHLEEN –
Alvin Lester “Al” Atkinson, 84, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 28, 2021. At his request, there will be no formal service.
Al was born in Atlanta to the late Otis and Virgie Sutton Atkinson. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy as a Radioman stationed in Iceland. He married the love of his life, Nyoka Williams. Al worked as an electrician in power houses for over forty years with IBEW Local Union 349, Miami, FL. The couple retired in Crystal River, Florida, where they lived for twenty years. They moved to Kathleen in Middle Georgia in 2017.
Al was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life. He enjoyed working in his garden where he grew a variety of vegetables and berries. He enjoyed canning his produce, cooking with it, and making his famous wine with the berries. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Joby Atkinson and Billy Atkinson; and a grandson, Jacob Smith.
Left to cherish the memories of Al are his loving and devoted wife of fifty-one years, Nyoka “Kokie” Atkinson of Kathleen; his children, Allen Atkinson (Traci) of Kathleen, Nancy Meggs of Bainbridge, Julie Perkins (Richard) of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Tommy Smith (Amanda) of Sulpher, Louisiana; his grandchildren, Kelly Fortson (Jeremy), Kattie Reese (Jereme), Kari Hunt (Tyge), Nicole Ritter, Hunter Smith, Dillon Smith (Rebbecca), Steven Smith, T.J. Smith, Wesley Smith, Cody Smith,Lindsey Kuza, and Josh Kuza; ten great-grandchildren; his sister, Jeannie Duplissey; a brother, Charlie Atkinson (Janice); and many nieces and nephews.
