PERRY - Senior Chief Petty Officer Peter Henry Hodgkins, U.S. Navy, Ret. of Perry passed away peacefully on Monday, January 24, 2022, at his home. He was 70 years old. A Family Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Pete was born on September 23, 1952, in Nashville, Tennessee. Joining the military in 1968, he proudly served our country in the United States Navy. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam as the Navy Radioman known as “Red”. He also served our country on the USS Kennedy and the USS Truxtun. His military tenure took him all of over the world - to the United States Embassy in London, along with the United States Naval Group Activity ADAK Alaska, NATO Base Keflavik Iceland, and Naval Air Station Bermuda, among other places. In 1991, he retired having earned the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer after twenty years of service. Over a long, accomplished military career, Pete formed and maintained life-long relationships with his shipmates. Following retirement, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia College. He then served his community as a Senior Counselor in the Georgia Correctional System for many years. Pete was an avid fisherman his entire life and was always happiest while on the water. He loved his family, his friends, and his golden retrievers. Left to cherish the memories they made with Pete are his wife of forty-three years, Mary Hodgkins; and his children, Brian Hodgkins, Libby Hodgkins, and Peter Hodgkins.
