Graveside Services will be held in Henderson Cemetery on Monday, July 5, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., immediately following the visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Henderson Cemetery Fund, c/o Leigh Kersey, 120 GA Hwy 26 E, Elko, GA 31025. Pam was born in Macon to the late Carey Strong and the late Orita Lashley Strong. She graduated from Perry High School and soon married the love of her life, Leighton Kersey. In becoming the wife of a life-long farmer, she knew exactly how she would spend her life – loving and caring for her husband and their home forever. And Pam did just that. Always a homemaker, she went to great lengths to create and maintain a loving, welcoming, and encouraging environment for their children and, eventually, their grandchildren. After her children were in grade school, Pam worked for several years as an Administrative Assistant at Kellwood in Perry, putting to good use the State Championship Shorthand medal that she won in high school, of which she was so proud. When the grandchildren came along, and often during their summers out of school, Pam could be found taking them to see the chickens or the horses. At one point, Pam and Leighton owned nearly two-hundred horses. Pam enjoyed traveling nationwide to watch their horses being shown by her daughter and their trainers, and was an active member of the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) for many years. She was often hostess to swimming parties and slumber parties for her children and grandchildren, welcoming their friends, as well. They were like family to her, and with a true servant’s heart, she loved having them in her home, too. Pam was always very supportive of her children and grandchildren and could be found cheering from the stands whenever one or more was on the field. She was “Memaw” to everyone on the Westfield School softball team, the Georgia Heat softball team, and the Columbus State softball team, and traveled many miles as the co-pilot for her husband to softball games across the country. When she could, Pam enjoyed spending time in the yard at her home, planting and nurturing flowers as well as caring for the lawn, always conscientious of her homemaking duties. Pam was loyal to her family – her children and grandchildren, whom she dearly loved, and also to anyone that they loved. She was a long-time member of Henderson Baptist Church, where she spent so much time setting many examples for her family of how to be a Christian lady devoted to her church and her church family. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Left to cherish the memories they made with Pam are her loving and devoted family – her son and daughter-in-law, Leigh and Teresa Kersey of Henderson; her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Phil Gilliam of Macon; her grandchildren, Kelsey Gilliam Renfroe (Brandon) of Macon, Haileigh Kersey Cooley (Justin) of Henderson, Kinsley Gilliam of Macon, and Leighton H. “Trey” Kersey, III, of Henderson; her bonus grandchildren, Braxton and Everly Grace Somers; her sisters, Kerry Strong Mason of Perry; Jan Strong Bembry (Jackie) of Hawkinsville, and Cindy Strong Bragg of Perry; and several nieces and nephews. Pam was preceded in death by her parents; and her beloved husband of fifty-seven years, Leighton H. Kersey, Sr. Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
