May 26, 1939 - December 26, 2019
Joseph Lee “Joe” Hagan, 80, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Thursday, December 26, 2019, after suffering a massive heart attack. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 30, 2019, in the Chapel at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church with the Visitation from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., at which time the Service will begin. Interment will be in the Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church Cemetery immediately following the service. Joe was born in St. Augustine to the late Levy and Grace Curry Hagan. He grew up in the Atlanta area and was Sanctified as a teenager during Camp Meeting at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church where he was an active member for many, many years. Joe worked with his brother-n-law, Edward Williams, repairing floors and installing carpet at Edward’s carpet shop. When he applied and received the offer to work with Clayton County Fire Department, Joe gladly accepted, and thus began his new career. He retired after 15 years of service – making himself available and always willing to go above and beyond the call of duty – to Clayton County as a firefighter. He loved his job and was thankful for the bond he made with so many others in that department through the years. In 2003, Joe and his wife, Lillie, moved from the Atlanta area to Perry to his beloved Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church Campground. He had always loved music, especially bluegrass, had played the banjo for years and then the dobro, and played with the Whitestone Band. The many hours of practice and performance allowed Joe the opportunity to spread the word of the Lord through music, and that made him happy. Joe was a gentle, sweet, kind spirit who would do anything for anybody who needed him. Although he was a quiet and humble man who was truly dedicated to his family, he was always one to tell funny stories and jokes to keep everyone around him laughing and smiling. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Ruthie Hagan Williams, Paul Hagan, and Jimmy Hagan. Left to cherish the memories of Joe are his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Lillie Clark Hagan; his son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Danielle Hagan; his daughter and son-in-law, Kristopher and Renee Hagan Burton; two grandchildren, Christopher Hagan and Savannah Burton; two great-grandchildren, Ainslee Hagan and Emory Ann Hagan; his sister, Lois Hagan Martin; and several nieces and nephews. Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
