    JAMES "JIMMY" GREER

    November 4, 1958 - March 19, 2022

PERRY – James Mercer “Jimmy” Greer, 63, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 19, 2022, after a brief illness. Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. Interment will be in Perry Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. Jimmy was born in Newnan, grew up there, and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1975. He immediately began working at Bearings & Drives, Inc. as a Parts Salesman. Jimmy loved his job as is evidenced by the length of time he devoted to it. He earned the Million Dollar Salesman award multiple times and retired after over forty-five years of service. During his free time, Jimmy enjoyed a simple life, golfing whenever he had some spare time, and fishing with his son, grandchildren, and friends, too. When his son was young, Jimmy coached the baseball team. He liked to have breakfast at the barn with friends, hang out at Little’s Bait & Tackle, cut the grass, and rake pine straw, which he also taught his grandchildren to do. Jimmy was so proud of the delightful gardens he was able to grow through the years, working alongside his mom and the rest of his family. The tomatoes, okra, and squash were delicious, but peppers of all kinds were his favorite things to grow. Jimmy was a “sociable homebody” who loved to sit on the porch and visit with all of his family, neighbors, and friends. He was truly a people person who loved everyone, especially his grandchildren, had a big heart and an even bigger laugh. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Louvale Huddleston McIlwaine and Keifer “Mac” McIlwaine; and his two brothers, Sammy Greer and Dennis Greer. Left to cherish the memories they made with Jimmy are his loving and devoted spouse of sixteen years, Michelle Valasky of Perry; his daughter and son-in-law, Amber and Nate Foster of St. Johns, Florida; his son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Alyssa Greer of Perry; his grandchildren, Cameron Foster, Abby Foster, Jacob Greer, and Jack Greer; his sister, Brenda Weatherford (Marty) of Perry; and several nieces and nephews. Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
