PERRY, GA – Elizabeth Powell Tabor, 98, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 31, 2021. Visitation and Services will be held Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Perry United Methodist Church Family Life Center, 1009 Main Street, Perry, GA in order to provide for social distancing. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to Perry United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 73, Perry, Georgia 31069. Elizabeth was born in Fitzgerald, Georgia, and was second of three daughters of the late Jesse Dixon Powell and the late Ella Wilson Powell. She spent her childhood in Fitzgerald and graduated from Fitzgerald High School in 1940. In May of 1944, she graduated from Georgia State College for Women (GSCW) with a Bachelor’s Degree having Majored in Home Economics. Elizabeth married the love of her life, Ralph Tabor, on May 6, 1944, shortly before he was sent overseas to serve our country during World War II. While Ralph was overseas, she lived with her parents and taught Home Economics in Ocilla. When Ralph returned home from service in 1945, he and Elizabeth moved to his family’s farm in Peach County and lived with his parents. Soon thereafter, they started their family. In January 1953, Elizabeth went to work with Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base. She was a Publications Manager when she retired in 1983 after 30 years of service. She was mother of three children – Mary, Beth, and Art – for whom she was an outstanding example in her service to God, her family, and her community. Elizabeth lovingly cared for her late husband of 60 years, A. Ralph Tabor, Sr., during the last months of his life. She was always serving others when the need arose, through her visits, delivering meals, or sending notes of encouragement. Elizabeth was active in her church, Perry United Methodist, and the local community. She was a member of the Howell Cobb Sunday School class, United Methodist Women, the Say So Circle, and the JOY Choir. She loved playing bridge and participated for many years in local bridge clubs. Elizabeth was an active member of the Sorelle Club, VFW Auxiliary, DAR (past chapter regent, treasurer and secretary) and Muses Book Club. In addition to her beloved husband and parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her son, A. Ralph (Art) Tabor, Jr.; her sisters, Mary P. Ruttenber and Min P. Bowers; her brothers-in-law, Arwood James Ruttenber and Charles Andrew Bowers; and her nephews, Jim and Tim Ruttenber. Left to cherish the memories made with Elizabeth are her daughters, Mary Cummings (Lloyd) of Warner Robins and Beth Tabor Mitchell (Larry) of Perry; her granddaughters, Elizabeth Cummings of Los Angeles, CA, and Katie Sheldon (Zac), of Asheville, NC; her great-grandchildren, Henry and Ella Sheldon of Asheville, NC; and her nephew, Jeff Ruttenber (Clarice) of Ocala, FL. Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
