    Dorothy "Docie" Elizabeth Mustin

    August 3, 1929 - February 1, 2020

PERRY- Dorothy Elizabeth “Docie” Mustin, 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 1, 2020. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at 7:00 p.m. at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church with interment in the Campground Cemetery immediately following the service. Docie was born in Montgomery, Alabama, to the late L. D. and Clara Reynolds Mustin, Sr. Always a smart, independent, and determined young lady, she graduated from high school at age 16 and immediately took a job as a bookkeeper with Paul H. Rose Corporation. While Docie was still living at home with her parents, she grew to love and treasure her family more and more through the years. She would take “the girls,” including her younger sister, her cousins, and many friends that she treated like family, on adventures shopping, watching drive-in movies, and eating at various soda shoppes and diners. Docie worked hard and was eventually promoted to Accountant Manager. As Dorothy began making her own money, she would often treat “the girls” to new outfits and shoes, and as those “girls” grew older, she even bought one of them a wedding dress which showed the deep love Docie had come to have for her family and friends. She was like a mother to so many, especially Patsy, having taught her proper manners and ladylike etiquette. Even though she never birthed any children of her own, Docie bought so many children’s clothes and nurtured so many like a mother would through the years. She later took a job with S & K Sales Company as the Senior Accountant in Norfolk, Virginia, managing the accounts for the various military commissaries around the country that S & K supplied. In 1998, Dorothy finally decided to retire, and she moved to Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church Campground in Perry, Georgia, in 1999 where she lived for many years. Eventually, when her health began to decline, she moved to the Church Home near the Campground where she would live out the remaining years of her life in a loving, Christian environment. A generous and intelligent lady with a heart of gold, Docie will forever be remembered as the career-oriented family member who made strides for all women in the business world by working hard and proving that women can have careers outside the home. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her. Docie was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers, L. D. Mustin, Jr. and Doyle Wayne Mustin. Left to cherish the memories they made with Docie are her brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Cherri Mustin of Virginia Beach, VA; her sister and brother-in-law, Patsy and Jim Smith of Bloomington, IL, formerly Jemison, AL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
