DONNA RODGERS CROSS
August 4, 1960 - February 17, 2022
UNADILLA – Donna Rodgers Cross, 61, entered her Heavenly home on Thursday, February 17, 2022. Private Graveside Services will be held in the cemetery at First Baptist Church of Haynesville with Reverend David Fisher officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Friends of Perry Animal Shelter (FOPAS), 204 Kellwood Drive, Perry, GA 31069. Donna was born in McRae on August 4, 1960, to the late Buena Pitts Rodgers and the late Warren Arthur Rodgers, Sr., who lovingly called her “Goober.” At a young age, the family moved to Montezuma where Donna graduated from Macon County High School with the Class of 1978. Donna spent her career as the Administrative Assistant of Internal Affairs for Georgia State Patrol. She enjoyed her job and her co-workers. Having a good sense of humor, she was a known prankster, especially at work, always encouraging others to remain upbeat and positive. Donna was trained by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency as a first responder in state emergencies. After thirty-three years in the GSP uniform and a successful career, she retired. Donna loved the Lord, had a true servant’s heart, wanted to serve Him in everything that she did, and was actively involved in her church. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Haynesville and the MAC (More About Christ) Sunday School Class. Donna volunteered at Haynesville Hide Away, the Preschool at her church, and worked with Missions there, too. She would help anyone in need and would also rescue animals when she could. Donna’s heart was full of love for her family, especially her grandchildren. She was so excited when she was able to spend time with them and watch them play ball. She loved to laugh and to make others laugh. The days that she was a self-proclaimed meteorologist, anticipating and tracking hurricanes and other bad weather, were fun times for all. Donna loved to be outdoors, particularly when she was hunting or fishing. She always enjoyed spending time at the beach, feeling the warmth of God’s love wrapping her with the sun and breathing the ocean air that would often allow her to reflect and restart. Donna’s mantra was knowing that everyone she encountered daily was worthy of love, and it was always her desire to give. Donna was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bobby Wilkes and Lee Rodgers; her father-in-law, W. H. Cross; and her best four-legged friend, TomTom the cat. Left to cherish the precious memories they made with Donna are her loving and devoted husband of nearly three years, William Cross, Jr. of Unadilla; her children, Jennifer Peaster Guest (David) and Kirk Peaster (Brandi), both of Perry; her grandchildren, Karli Peaster, Kamland Peaster, and Keaton Peaster; her siblings, Connie Gibson, Warren Rodgers, Jr. (Meliah), Billy Wilkes (Susan), Lisa Rodgers, and John Rodgers (Lea); many nieces and nephews; a special friend, Cathy Fowler; her black lab, Midnight; and her cat, Smokey. Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
