ALMA SUE GIBSON COCHRAN
May 19, 1945 - October 10, 2020
PERRY – Alma Sue Gibson Cochran, 75, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 10, 2020, after a brief battle with cancer. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. At 10:45 a.m., the family will drive in a procession to the Graveside Service in Woodlawn Cemetery in Perry. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Alma was born in Hardburly, Kentucky, to the late Cleve and Nora Mullins Gibson. She married the love of her life in 1963 and immediately became an “Air Force wife,” moving with him, and eventually their two sons, to Germany, Illinois, and Kentucky, among others. When her husband retired from the service after a tour in California, they came to Houston County for a job in Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base. Alma made her life about her family and her home. She always wanted to provide a loving and caring environment for her husband to come home to and in which to raise their children. Alma enjoyed going over the road, sometimes coast to coast, with her older son as he worked driving a transfer truck, traveling to various parts of the United States. When her two granddaughters were born, she treasured the moments spent with them to influence the next generation of her family, which she also did when they enjoyed family trips to the mountains every year, often at Thanksgiving. Left to cherish the memories they shared with Alma are her loving and devoted husband of 57 years, Dearl Cochran of Perry; her children, Dean and Leigh Cochran, and Corbin and April Cochran, all of Haynesville; her beloved granddaughters who affectionately referred to her as “Grammie,” Breannah Cochran and Rebecca Cochran; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Alma was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Wilma Gibson Hert and Wanda Gibson Lewis; and her brother, Hargis Gibson. Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
