Alice Jane, as most people called her, was the daughter of the late Paul and Jessie Hardy. She was born in Brooksville, Florida, but most of her childhood was spent in Perry, Georgia, where her father managed and operated the limerock plant. Alice Jane was always fond of her early days having the “run of the land at the plant,” being outside climbing trees, and being a true tomboy. As a teenager, she was very proud of her time as a Drum Major with the Perry High School Marching Band, and her alma mater, Perry High School, from where she graduated in 1957. She loved to regale everyone with stories of her “pack” from high school. That pack remained lifelong friends that she enjoyed knowing all of her life. Alice Jane attended Young Harris College and Georgia Southern College, earning Degrees in Home Economics and Education. For those fortunate to live with her, they benefitted greatly from her degree, mainly the cooking skills she obtained while there and developed through the years. Alice Jane loved performing through tap dancing and singing and often participated in many little theatre performances in Macon and Perry. She was also very active and enjoyed politics, having worked for Senator Sam Nunn during his initial run for Senate and then during his first few years in Washington. Her passion in this area was always tied to serving others who were often overlooked and forgotten by many. This trait followed her all of her life, whether it was delivering food to older workers from the limerock plant, or sharing a tear with parents while working for the Houston County Sheriff’s Department. You could always count on Alice Jane to listen and love on you, regardless of the circumstances and without judgement. As long as she could, she was an active member of Perry United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the sanctuary choir as well as attending Sunday School with the IHS (In His Service) Class. She loved her family, and they will all miss her greatly. Left to cherish the memories they made with Alice Jane are her beloved children, Paul Harvard of Savannah, Gil Harvard (Ashley) of Alpharetta, Howard Street (Roxanne) of Juliette, and Alice Davis of Perry; and fourteen grandchildren. Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
