Mrs. Lee was born in Athens to the late James C. and Louise Porterfield Howington. She retired from Houston County Board of Education after over 20 years as a Secretary and Bookkeeper. She was so efficient that when computers were introduced many years ago, they would use her bookkeeping records to make sure the computers were calculating correctly. Mrs. Lee was a member of Houston Lake Baptist Church and the Sunshine Senior Sunday School Class. She was active in various roles at the church, including the Prayer Chain. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies' Auxiliary and the FEW - Farm Estates Women. Mrs. Lee was an "old-time, southern cook" who enjoyed cooking and canning, serving her scrumptious meals to others when she could. A kind and generous lady, she was the first one there to assist if anyone ever needed help. Mrs. Lee was very crafty and delighted in making Christmas decorations for her home and her family and friends. An excellent seamstress, she made many of her own clothes. Mrs. Lee enjoyed fishing with her sweet husband. A former member of Perry Church of God, she loved to play the piano at church. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, Charles Curtis Howington and Raymond B. Howington.
Left to cherish the memories of Mrs. Lee are her loving husband of 66 years, Sam Lee of Perry; her sons and their wives, David and Theresa Lee of Westchester, Pennsylvania, and Doug and Dianne Lee of Perry; her brother, James "Son" Howington of Poulan, GA; her grandchildren, Marc Lee (Stacy), Stephanie Lee Carter (Sammy), Danny Stokes (Amy), and Donnie Stokes (Millie); 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
